What is VMQ SHA80?
VMQ SHA80 is VMQ heat treated to SHA80 — for rollers, back-up rings and parts requiring stiffness over elasticity. VMQ SHA80 has a tensile strength of 8 MPa (1.16 ksi), stronger than 50% of silicone grades. Elongation at break is 180% and the elastic modulus is 0.01 GPa (0.0017 Msi). VMQ SHA80 has a density of 1.25 g/cm³ (0.0452 lb/in³), heavier than 100% of silicone grades. Its glass-transition temperature is -123°C (-189 °F). SHA60 is the default condition FabDigit quotes; SHA80 is available on request or by drawing note.

Working with VMQ SHA80
Is VMQ easy to machine?
Cured silicone is best die-cut, water-jet or laser-cut; conventional machining requires freezing/support or very sharp tools since the part deflects under cutter load.
Can VMQ be welded?
Not weldable; join by adhesive bonding with primer, self-fusing (uncured-to-cured) overmolding, or RTV silicone adhesive — untreated surfaces need plasma/primer for good bond strength.
Can VMQ be formed, bent or molded?
HCR is compression/transfer-molded or extruded and cured at 150–190 °C followed by 4 h post-cure at ~200 °C; LSR is injection-molded from 1:1 A/B pumps at 160–210 °C mold with cold runners; allow 2–3 % shrink.
What surface finishes work on VMQ?
Deflash by cryogenic tumbling; post-cure removes volatiles for low compression set and odor; apply plasma/corona or fluoro/parylene coatings for low-friction, low-tack surfaces — silicone cannot be painted without special primers.

VMQ SHA80 — frequently asked
What is VMQ SHA80 used for?
VMQ SHA80 is typically used for medical seals, food-grade gaskets, keypads, high-temp gaskets and baby products. In short: widest service temperature elastomer; standard for medical-grade rubber; low strength, high flexibility.
What is the tensile strength of VMQ SHA80?
VMQ SHA80 has a typical tensile strength of 8 MPa (1.16 ksi) — stronger than 50% of silicone grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 17 listed tempers.
Is VMQ SHA80 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (35/100, better than 150% of silicone grades). Cured silicone is best die-cut, water-jet or laser-cut; conventional machining requires freezing/support or very sharp tools since the part deflects under cutter load.
Can VMQ SHA80 be welded?
Not readily — weldability is rated poor (15/100). Not weldable; join by adhesive bonding with primer, self-fusing (uncured-to-cured) overmolding, or RTV silicone adhesive — untreated surfaces need plasma/primer for good bond strength.
