What is Bonded Leather Board?

Bonded Leather Board is reconstituted leather fiber bonded with latex into board and sheet form, giving uniform thickness and consistent density (0.7 g/cm³ in the standard STD-070 grade) for stamping and die-cutting. Engineers use it where a natural leather feel and clean die-cut edges are needed in high volume; it is stocked as flat sheet and board in low-, standard- and high-density variants (LD-050, STD-070, HD-095) and a PU water-resistant version. Mechanical capability is modest — about 8 MPa tensile, 15 % elongation, 0.45 GPa modulus — and service is limited to roughly 90 °C with low resistance to solvents and moisture (corrosion resistance score 35). Where wet or chemical exposure dominates, a synthetic-blend felt or elastomer sheet is the closer choice. Bonded Leather Board has a density of 0.7 g/cm³ (0.0253 lb/in³), heavier than 53% of natural material grades. Bonded Leather Board has a tensile strength of 8 MPa (1.16 ksi), weaker than 78% of natural material grades. Elongation at break is 15% and the elastic modulus is 0.45 GPa (0.0653 Msi).

Working with Bonded Leather Board

Is Bonded Leather Board easy to machine?

Die-cut, clicker-press, skive or laser/CNC-knife cut cleanly; carbide or hardened steel blades last longer because chrome-tanned fiber and mineral filler are abrasive, and laser cutting produces burnt-leather odor.

Can Bonded Leather Board be welded?

Not weldable — join by contact/latex/PU adhesive, stitching, riveting or heat-set edge binding.

Can Bonded Leather Board be formed, bent or molded?

Dampen or steam and press-form in a heated mold (roughly 60–90 °C) to hold three-dimensional shapes; dry fully before assembly to avoid springback and shrinkage.
