Working with EZ33-T5

Is EZ33 easy to machine?

Machines very freely at high speed with sharp, high-rake tools; use dry or mineral-oil cutting (never water-based), keep chips coarse and store swarf in covered steel bins because fine dust is a fire hazard.

Can EZ33 be welded?

Readily GTAW/GMAW welded and weld-repaired with EZ33A filler; low hot-cracking tendency, re-age 5 h at 216 °C after repair to restore properties.

Can EZ33 be formed, bent or molded?

Sand and investment casting alloy with excellent fluidity and pressure tightness; requires SF6-free protective cover gas or flux, Zr-preserving melt practice and slow directional solidification for thin sections.

What surface finishes work on EZ33?

Not anodizable like aluminium — apply chromate/fluoride conversion or Dow 17/HAE anodic coating followed by epoxy primer and paint; insulate all steel and copper fasteners to avoid galvanic attack.

What is the maximum service temperature of EZ33-T5?

EZ33-T5 is rated for continuous use to about 250°C (482 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between EZ33-T5 and EZ33-F?

T5 is the default condition — standard supplied condition for EZ33A sand and investment castings; best combination of creep resistance, pressure tightness and dimensional stability to 250 °C. F: untreated as-cast state, used for non-critical or low-stress parts and as the starting point before T5 ageing; slightly lower yield strength and less dimensional stability at temperature. Yield strength is 110 MPa in T5 versus 90 MPa in F.
