Steel P92 Normalized vs P92 Q&T
Steel · P92 temper comparison
P92 Normalized and P92 Q&T are two conditions of the same steel grade, P92: Normalized versus Q&T (quenched and tempered). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. P92 Normalized is the stronger of the two: yield strength 900 MPa (131 ksi) against 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) for P92 Q&T, about 55% more; tensile strength follows at 1,250 MPa (181 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi). In exchange, P92 Q&T is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 12% for P92 Normalized, and P92 Normalized is harder (400 HB vs 235 HB). P92 Q&T runs hotter in service (620°C vs 400°C continuous). On the shop floor, P92 Q&T machines more easily (fair vs poor).
P92 NormalizedChoose it when strength drives the design.
P92 Q&TChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
P92 Normalized vs P92 Q&T: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

P92 Normalized vs P92 Q&T — frequently asked
Is P92 Normalized stronger than P92 Q&T?
Yes. P92 Normalized has a typical yield strength of 900 MPa (131 ksi) against 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) for P92 Q&T — about 55% more. Tensile strength is 1,250 MPa (181 ksi) vs 760 MPa (110 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, Normalized or Q&T?
HR is the default P92 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither Normalized nor Q&T). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, P92 Normalized or P92 Q&T?
P92 Q&T. Its machinability rates fair (35/100) against poor (15/100) for P92 Normalized; for welding the order is P92 Q&T first (poor, 30/100) then P92 Normalized (poor, 25/100).

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in P92 Normalized and P92 Q&T side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
