Steel A7-ANN vs A7 HT62-65
Steel · A7 temper comparison
A7-ANN and A7 HT62-65 are two conditions of the same steel grade, A7: ANN (annealed) versus HT62-65 (hardened & tempered 62–65 HRC). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. A7 HT62-65 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 2,000 MPa (290 ksi) against 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) for A7-ANN, about 4.0 times as much; tensile strength follows at 2,250 MPa (326 ksi) vs 830 MPa (120 ksi). In exchange, A7-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 10% versus 0.4% for A7 HT62-65, and A7 HT62-65 is harder (64 HRC vs 22 HRC). A7-ANN runs hotter in service (400°C vs 200°C continuous). On the shop floor, A7-ANN machines more easily (poor vs not recommended).

A7-ANN vs A7 HT62-65: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

A7-ANN vs A7 HT62-65 — frequently asked
Is A7 HT62-65 stronger than A7-ANN?
Yes. A7 HT62-65 has a typical yield strength of 2,000 MPa (290 ksi) against 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) for A7-ANN — about 4.0 times as much. Tensile strength is 2,250 MPa (326 ksi) vs 830 MPa (120 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or HT62-65?
ANN is the default A7 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, A7-ANN or A7 HT62-65?
A7-ANN. Its machinability rates poor (18/100) against not recommended (2/100) for A7 HT62-65; for welding the order is A7-ANN first (not recommended, 12/100) then A7 HT62-65 (not recommended, 4/100).
