Steel A3 vs O7
Steel · grade comparison
Steel A3 and O7 are both steel grades. A3 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) against 400 MPa (58 ksi) for O7, about 8% more; tensile strength follows at 760 MPa (110 ksi) vs 690 MPa (100 ksi). In exchange, O7 is the more ductile: elongation 24% versus 20% for A3, and A3 is harder (217 HB vs 202 HB). O7 conducts heat better (33 W/m·K vs 24 W/m·K). On the shop floor, O7 machines more easily (good vs fair).
A3Choose it when strength drives the design.
O7Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part is machined in volume.
A3 vs O7: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

A3 vs O7 — frequently asked
Is A3 stronger than O7?
Yes. A3 has a typical yield strength of 430 MPa (62.4 ksi) against 400 MPa (58 ksi) for O7 — about 8% more. Tensile strength is 760 MPa (110 ksi) vs 690 MPa (100 ksi).
Which is cheaper, A3 or O7?
Both sit in the same relative cost tier ($$$, premium); the part price will be decided by machining time, tolerance and quantity rather than by the material.
Which is easier to machine, A3 or O7?
O7. Its machinability rates good (55/100) against fair (38/100) for A3.
