Precious Metal 9K-H02 vs 9K-H04
Precious Metal · 9K temper comparison
9K-H02 and 9K-H04 are two conditions of the same precious metal grade, 9K: H02 (half hard) versus H04 (full hard). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. 9K-H04 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) against 400 MPa (58 ksi) for 9K-H02, about 40% more; tensile strength follows at 660 MPa (95.7 ksi) vs 520 MPa (75.4 ksi). In exchange, 9K-H02 is the more ductile: elongation 10% versus 3% for 9K-H04, and 9K-H04 is harder (198 HB vs 157 HB). 9K-H02 runs hotter in service (200°C vs 175°C continuous).
9K-H02Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
9K-H04Choose it when strength drives the design.
9K-H02 vs 9K-H04: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all precious metal grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

9K-H02 vs 9K-H04 — frequently asked
Is 9K-H04 stronger than 9K-H02?
Yes. 9K-H04 has a typical yield strength of 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) against 400 MPa (58 ksi) for 9K-H02 — about 40% more. Tensile strength is 660 MPa (95.7 ksi) vs 520 MPa (75.4 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H02 or H04?
ANN is the default 9K condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither H02 nor H04). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, 9K-H02 or 9K-H04?
9K-H04. Its machinability rates very good (72/100) against good (65/100) for 9K-H02; for welding the order is 9K-H02 first (very good, 70/100) then 9K-H04 (good, 65/100).
