Copper Alloy C1100-H vs C1100-O

Copper Alloy · C1100 temper comparison

C1100-H and C1100-O are two conditions of the same copper alloy grade, C1100: H (hardened) versus O (annealed). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. C1100-H is the stronger of the two: yield strength 305 MPa (44.2 ksi) against 69 MPa (10 ksi) for C1100-O, about 4.4 times as much; tensile strength follows at 345 MPa (50 ksi) vs 225 MPa (32.6 ksi). In exchange, C1100-O is the more ductile: elongation 45% versus 6% for C1100-H, and C1100-H is harder (112 HV vs 48 HV). C1100-O runs hotter in service (200°C vs 150°C continuous). On the shop floor, C1100-H machines more easily (32 vs 18 out of 100).

C1100-OChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.

C1100-H vs C1100-O — frequently asked

Is C1100-H stronger than C1100-O?

Yes. C1100-H has a typical yield strength of 305 MPa (44.2 ksi) against 69 MPa (10 ksi) for C1100-O — about 4.4 times as much. Tensile strength is 345 MPa (50 ksi) vs 225 MPa (32.6 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H or O?

O is the default C1100 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

Which is easier to machine, C1100-H or C1100-O?

C1100-H, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 32/100 against 18/100 for C1100-O.
