Aluminum CP-Al-H16 vs CP-Al-H22
Aluminum · CP-Al temper comparison
CP-Al-H16 and CP-Al-H22 are two conditions of the same aluminum grade, CP-Al: H16 (strain hardened, three-quarter hard) versus H22 (strain hardened and partially annealed, quarter hard). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. CP-Al-H16 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 115 MPa (16.7 ksi) against 70 MPa (10.2 ksi) for CP-Al-H22, about 64% more; tensile strength follows at 130 MPa (18.9 ksi) vs 95 MPa (13.8 ksi). In exchange, CP-Al-H22 is the more ductile: elongation 14% versus 5% for CP-Al-H16, and CP-Al-H16 is harder (35 HB vs 25 HB). CP-Al-H22 runs hotter in service (150°C vs 120°C continuous).
CP-Al-H16Choose it when strength drives the design.
CP-Al-H22Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
CP-Al-H16 vs CP-Al-H22: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all aluminum grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

CP-Al-H16 vs CP-Al-H22 — frequently asked
Is CP-Al-H16 stronger than CP-Al-H22?
Yes. CP-Al-H16 has a typical yield strength of 115 MPa (16.7 ksi) against 70 MPa (10.2 ksi) for CP-Al-H22 — about 64% more. Tensile strength is 130 MPa (18.9 ksi) vs 95 MPa (13.8 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H16 or H22?
AB is the default CP-Al condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither H16 nor H22). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, CP-Al-H16 or CP-Al-H22?
CP-Al-H16. Its machinability rates fair (38/100) against poor (33/100) for CP-Al-H22.
