Aluminum ADC12-T5 vs ADC12-T6

Aluminum · ADC12 temper comparison

ADC12-T5 and ADC12-T6 are two conditions of the same aluminum grade, ADC12: T5 (cooled from hot working and artificially aged) versus T6 (solution heat treated and artificially aged). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. ADC12-T6 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) against 200 MPa (29 ksi) for ADC12-T5, about 30% more. In exchange, ADC12-T5 is the more ductile: elongation 1.5% versus 1% for ADC12-T6, and ADC12-T6 is harder (110 HB vs 90 HB).

ADC12-T5 vs ADC12-T6 — frequently asked

Is ADC12-T6 stronger than ADC12-T5?

Yes. ADC12-T6 has a typical yield strength of 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) against 200 MPa (29 ksi) for ADC12-T5 — about 30% more. Tensile strength is 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) vs 330 MPa (47.9 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, T5 or T6?

F is the default ADC12 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither T5 nor T6). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

When should I choose ADC12-T5 over ADC12-T6?

Pick ADC12-T5 when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded. Pick ADC12-T6 when strength drives the design.
