Working with 8011A-H24
Is 8011A easy to machine?
Rarely machined; in soft tempers it is gummy and needs polished high-rake tools, high speed and flood lubricant — blank, slit or die-cut instead.
Can 8011A be welded?
Non-heat-treatable and readily GTAW/GMAW welded with 4043 or 1100 filler in strip gauges, but foil is joined by heat-sealing lacquer, adhesive lamination or ultrasonic/resistance methods.
Can 8011A be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent in O/H2x tempers for deep drawing, embossing and cold-form blister; H18/H19 hard foil should only be lightly bent as it cracks, and interanneal or specify H24 for severe draws.
What surface finishes work on 8011A?
Normally supplied degreased and coil-coated, printed or lacquered; conversion coating gives good paint/lacquer adhesion, while anodising is only protective (grey, non-decorative) because of the Fe/Si intermetallics.
