STEP file viewer
Open, measure and share STEP files. Create a 2D drawing or export an STL.
How it works
Open
Drop a STEP or STP file.
Inspect
Rotate, zoom and measure the part.
Export
Create a 2D PDF or download an STL.
What you can do
Measure
Measure faces, edges, holes, angles and overall size.
Weight
Choose a material to calculate volume and weight.
2D drawing
Create standard views, add notes and export a PDF.
Parts list
Hide or isolate bodies in a multi-body model.
STL export
Choose units and mesh quality, then download.
Share link
Share a 30-day browser link. No account required.
What is a STEP file?
STEP (.step or .stp) is a neutral CAD format supported by most engineering software. It stores exact surfaces and edges rather than a triangle mesh.
It is the preferred format for CNC machining, sheet metal and molding. AP203, AP214 and AP242 files are supported.
Supported formats
Every tool accepts the same file types.
| Format | Extensions | Opens as |
|---|---|---|
| STEP | .step, .stp | 3D solid: view, measure, draw and export |
| IGES | .iges, .igs | 3D solid or surface: view, measure and export |
| STL | .stl | 3D mesh: view and measure |
| OBJ | .obj | 3D mesh: view, measure and export |
| SOLIDWORKS | .sldprt | Converted to STEP |
| Autodesk Inventor | .ipt | Converted to STEP |
| CATIA V5 | .catpart | Converted to STEP |
| Creo / NX | .prt | Converted to STEP |
| Parasolid | .x_t, .x_b | Converted to STEP |
| ACIS | .sat | Converted to STEP |
| Rhino | .3dm | Converted to STEP |

FAQ
Is my file uploaded to FabDigit?
Yes. We upload it over an encrypted connection to open and price it. Only FabDigit and people with your share link can access it.
Can I get a price?
Yes. We price eligible parts instantly. Other parts go to an engineer for review. You can change the material, finish and quantity before ordering.
Which files can I open?
STEP, STP, IGES, STL, OBJ, DXF and supported native CAD part files. Multi-body STEP files include a parts list.
What can I measure?
Distances, diameters, radii, angles, overall size, volume and weight.
Can I get a 2D drawing from a STEP file?
Yes. Create standard views, add dimensions and notes, then export a PDF.
Can I share the model?
Yes. Copy a private link that works for 30 days. No account or software is required.
Can it open SOLIDWORKS, Inventor and CATIA files?
Yes. We convert supported part files to STEP, usually in under a minute. Without an account, you can convert 5 native files per day. Sign in for more.
Is it free?
Yes. No account or installation is required.
