Titanium Grade C-5-AC vs Grade C-5-STA
Titanium · Grade C-5 temper comparison
Grade C-5-AC and Grade C-5-STA are two conditions of the same titanium grade, Grade C-5: AC (spheroidize annealed) versus STA (solution treated and aged). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. Grade C-5-STA is the stronger of the two: yield strength 970 MPa (141 ksi) against 840 MPa (122 ksi) for Grade C-5-AC, about 15% more; tensile strength follows at 1,070 MPa (155 ksi) vs 910 MPa (132 ksi). In exchange, Grade C-5-AC is the more ductile: elongation 7% versus 6% for Grade C-5-STA, and Grade C-5-STA is harder (360 HB vs 325 HB). Grade C-5-STA runs hotter in service (400°C vs 350°C continuous). On the shop floor, Grade C-5-STA welds better (65 vs 55 out of 100).
Grade C-5-ACChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.
Grade C-5-STAChoose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
Grade C-5-AC vs Grade C-5-STA: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all titanium grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

Grade C-5-AC vs Grade C-5-STA — frequently asked
Is Grade C-5-STA stronger than Grade C-5-AC?
Yes. Grade C-5-STA has a typical yield strength of 970 MPa (141 ksi) against 840 MPa (122 ksi) for Grade C-5-AC — about 15% more. Tensile strength is 1,070 MPa (155 ksi) vs 910 MPa (132 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, AC or STA?
HIP is the default Grade C-5 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither AC nor STA). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which welds better, Grade C-5-AC or Grade C-5-STA?
Grade C-5-STA. Its weldability rates good (65/100) against good (55/100) for Grade C-5-AC.
