Steel T5-ANN vs T5 HT-63
Steel · T5 temper comparison
T5-ANN and T5 HT-63 are two conditions of the same steel grade, T5: ANN (annealed) versus HT-63 (hardened & tempered 63–65 HRC). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. T5 HT-63 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 1,950 MPa (283 ksi) against 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) for T5-ANN, about 3.3 times as much; tensile strength follows at 2,100 MPa (305 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi). In exchange, T5-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 12% versus 0.5% for T5 HT-63, and T5 HT-63 is harder (800 HV vs 268 HV). T5 HT-63 runs hotter in service (580°C vs 400°C continuous). On the shop floor, T5-ANN machines more easily (poor vs not recommended).
T5-ANNChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part is machined in volume.
T5 HT-63Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
T5-ANN vs T5 HT-63: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

T5-ANN vs T5 HT-63 — frequently asked
Is T5 HT-63 stronger than T5-ANN?
Yes. T5 HT-63 has a typical yield strength of 1,950 MPa (283 ksi) against 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) for T5-ANN — about 3.3 times as much. Tensile strength is 2,100 MPa (305 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or HT-63?
ANN is the default T5 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, T5-ANN or T5 HT-63?
T5-ANN. Its machinability rates poor (32/100) against not recommended (6/100) for T5 HT-63; for welding the order is T5-ANN first (poor, 15/100) then T5 HT-63 (not recommended, 8/100).

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in T5-ANN and T5 HT-63 side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
