Steel T2-ANN vs T2 CD-ANN
Steel · T2 temper comparison
T2-ANN and T2 CD-ANN are two conditions of the same steel grade, T2: ANN (annealed) versus CD-ANN (cold drawn / ground annealed bar). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. T2 CD-ANN is the stronger of the two: yield strength 650 MPa (94.3 ksi) against 570 MPa (82.7 ksi) for T2-ANN, about 14% more; tensile strength follows at 950 MPa (138 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi). In exchange, T2-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 15% for T2 CD-ANN, and T2 CD-ANN is harder (250 HB vs 235 HB). T2 CD-ANN runs hotter in service (450°C vs 400°C continuous).
T2-ANNChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.
T2 CD-ANNChoose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
T2-ANN vs T2 CD-ANN: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

T2-ANN vs T2 CD-ANN — frequently asked
Is T2 CD-ANN stronger than T2-ANN?
Yes. T2 CD-ANN has a typical yield strength of 650 MPa (94.3 ksi) against 570 MPa (82.7 ksi) for T2-ANN — about 14% more. Tensile strength is 950 MPa (138 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or CD-ANN?
ANN is the default T2 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
When should I choose T2-ANN over T2 CD-ANN?
Pick T2-ANN when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded. Pick T2 CD-ANN when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
Ready to make it?
Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in T2-ANN and T2 CD-ANN side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
