Stainless Steel SUH3-HR vs SUH3-QT
Stainless Steel · SUH3 temper comparison
SUH3-HR and SUH3-QT are two conditions of the same stainless steel grade, SUH3: HR (hot rolled) versus QT (quenched and tempered). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. SUH3-QT is the stronger of the two: yield strength 780 MPa (113 ksi) against 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) for SUH3-HR, about 26% more; tensile strength follows at 1,010 MPa (146 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi). SUH3-QT is harder — 295 HB against 270 HB for SUH3-HR — which matters for wear surfaces and threads.
SUH3-QTChoose it when strength drives the design, or when surface hardness matters.
SUH3-HR vs SUH3-QT: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all stainless steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

SUH3-HR vs SUH3-QT — frequently asked
Is SUH3-QT stronger than SUH3-HR?
Yes. SUH3-QT has a typical yield strength of 780 MPa (113 ksi) against 620 MPa (89.9 ksi) for SUH3-HR — about 26% more. Tensile strength is 1,010 MPa (146 ksi) vs 900 MPa (131 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, HR or QT?
QT is the default SUH3 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
When should I choose SUH3-HR over SUH3-QT?
Pick SUH3-QT when strength drives the design, or when surface hardness matters.

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in SUH3-HR and SUH3-QT side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
