Precious Metal 9K-AC vs 9K-ANN
Precious Metal · 9K temper comparison
9K-AC and 9K-ANN are two conditions of the same precious metal grade, 9K: AC (spheroidize annealed) versus ANN (annealed). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. 9K-ANN is the stronger of the two: tensile strength 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) against 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) for 9K-AC, about 9% more. 9K-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 35% versus 18% for 9K-AC, and 9K-AC is harder (124 HB vs 115 HB).
9K-ANNChoose it when strength drives the design, or when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.
9K-AC vs 9K-ANN: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all precious metal grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

9K-AC vs 9K-ANN — frequently asked
Is 9K-ANN stronger than 9K-AC?
Yes. 9K-ANN has a typical tensile strength of 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) against 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) for 9K-AC — about 9% more.
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, AC or ANN?
ANN is the default 9K condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, 9K-AC or 9K-ANN?
9K-AC, by a small margin. Both rate good for machinability — 60/100 against 55/100 for 9K-ANN; for welding the order is 9K-ANN first (very good, 78/100) then 9K-AC (very good, 70/100).

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in 9K-AC and 9K-ANN side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
