Magnesium Alloy MA2-N vs MA2-T2
Magnesium Alloy · MA2 temper comparison
MA2-N and MA2-T2 are two conditions of the same magnesium alloy grade, MA2: N (normalized) versus T2 (cooled from hot working, cold worked and naturally aged). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. MA2-N is the stronger of the two: yield strength 205 MPa (29.7 ksi) against 125 MPa (18.1 ksi) for MA2-T2, about 64% more; tensile strength follows at 285 MPa (41.3 ksi) vs 245 MPa (35.5 ksi). In exchange, MA2-T2 is the more ductile: elongation 16% versus 10% for MA2-N, and MA2-N is harder (62 HB vs 48 HB). MA2-T2 runs hotter in service (120°C vs 110°C continuous).
MA2-NChoose it when strength drives the design.
MA2-T2Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
MA2-N vs MA2-T2: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all magnesium alloy grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

MA2-N vs MA2-T2 — frequently asked
Is MA2-N stronger than MA2-T2?
Yes. MA2-N has a typical yield strength of 205 MPa (29.7 ksi) against 125 MPa (18.1 ksi) for MA2-T2 — about 64% more. Tensile strength is 285 MPa (41.3 ksi) vs 245 MPa (35.5 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, N or T2?
M is the default MA2 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither N nor T2). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which welds better, MA2-N or MA2-T2?
MA2-T2. Its weldability rates very good (72/100) against good (65/100) for MA2-N.
