Aluminum LM27-T6 vs LM27-TE

Aluminum · LM27 temper comparison

LM27-T6 and LM27-TE are two conditions of the same aluminum grade, LM27: T6 (solution heat treated and artificially aged) versus TE (precipitation (artificially aged) treated from the as-cast condition). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. LM27-T6 is the stronger of the two: tensile strength 255 MPa (37 ksi) against 215 MPa (31.2 ksi) for LM27-TE, about 19% more. LM27-T6 is the more ductile: elongation 2% versus 1% for LM27-TE, and LM27-TE is harder (105 HB vs 92 HB).

LM27-T6Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.

LM27-T6 vs LM27-TE — frequently asked

Is LM27-T6 stronger than LM27-TE?

Yes. LM27-T6 has a typical tensile strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) against 215 MPa (31.2 ksi) for LM27-TE — about 19% more.

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, T6 or TE?

M is the default LM27 condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither T6 nor TE). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

When should I choose LM27-T6 over LM27-TE?

Pick LM27-T6 when strength drives the design, or when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.
