Aluminum CP-Al-H14 vs CP-Al-H18
Aluminum · CP-Al temper comparison
CP-Al-H14 and CP-Al-H18 are two conditions of the same aluminum grade, CP-Al: H14 (strain hardened, half hard) versus H18 (strain hardened, full hard). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. CP-Al-H18 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 135 MPa (19.6 ksi) against 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) for CP-Al-H14, about 42% more; tensile strength follows at 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) vs 110 MPa (16 ksi). In exchange, CP-Al-H14 is the more ductile: elongation 7% versus 4% for CP-Al-H18, and CP-Al-H18 is harder (38 HB vs 30 HB).

CP-Al-H14 vs CP-Al-H18: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all aluminum grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

CP-Al-H14 vs CP-Al-H18 — frequently asked
Is CP-Al-H18 stronger than CP-Al-H14?
Yes. CP-Al-H18 has a typical yield strength of 135 MPa (19.6 ksi) against 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) for CP-Al-H14 — about 42% more. Tensile strength is 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) vs 110 MPa (16 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H14 or H18?
AB is the default CP-Al condition in the FabDigit quote flow (neither H14 nor H18). The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, CP-Al-H14 or CP-Al-H18?
CP-Al-H18, by a small margin. Both rate fair for machinability — 40/100 against 35/100 for CP-Al-H14; for welding the order is CP-Al-H14 first (excellent, 90/100) then CP-Al-H18 (excellent, 85/100).
