MIL-PRF-46010
Lubricant, Solid Film, Heat Cured, Corrosion Inhibiting
Establishes performance and qualification requirements for a heat-cured, corrosion-inhibiting solid-film lubricant.
What MIL-PRF-46010 specifies
MIL-PRF-46010H covers one qualified, lead-free performance category of heat-cured solid-film lubricant for reducing wear, galling, corrosion, and seizure. Revision F removed the former Type I and Type II classifications; those legacy aerospace categories were superseded by SAE AS5272 Types I and II. The coating must meet endurance, load, corrosion, fluid-resistance, storage-stability, and application requirements, and the product must be qualified in the DoD qualified products database. The standard allows cure at 150 ± 15 °C for 2 hours or 204 ± 15 °C for 1 hour. A drawing should state the specification, dry-film thickness if the design controls it, cure limitations, substrate preparation, masking, and whether the application is aerospace-qualified.
MIL-PRF-46010 types and classes
Every designation the document defines, with the thickness it requires and the tests it imposes.
| Designation | Meaning | Requirement / test |
|---|---|---|
Current performance category | Lead-free, heat-cured, corrosion-inhibiting solid-film lubricant; MIL-PRF-46010H has no Type I or Type II subdivisions. | At least 450 min endurance at 4450 N; at least 11120 N load capacity; 100 h salt spray; fluid and storage stability tests. |

MIL-PRF-46010 — frequently asked
Does MIL-PRF-46010 have Type I and Type II?
No. Those classifications were removed in revision F. Legacy MIL-L-46010 Type I and II aerospace applications moved to SAE AS5272 Types I and II.
Is MIL-L-46010 the same as MIL-PRF-46010?
No. MIL-PRF-46010 superseded the older lubricant specification but the current lead-free product is not automatically technically equivalent to legacy Type I aerospace lubricant.
What cure does MIL-PRF-46010 use?
The specification permits 150 ± 15 °C for 2 hours or 204 ± 15 °C for 1 hour. The lower cure may be important for heat-sensitive substrates.
