Steel T9A-A vs T9A-HR
Steel · T9A temper comparison
T9A-A and T9A-HR are two conditions of the same steel grade, T9A: A (solution annealed) versus HR (hot rolled). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. T9A-HR is the stronger of the two: yield strength 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) against 410 MPa (59.5 ksi) for T9A-A, about 15% more; tensile strength follows at 830 MPa (120 ksi) vs 700 MPa (102 ksi). In exchange, T9A-A is the more ductile: elongation 22% versus 12% for T9A-HR, and T9A-HR is harder (240 HB vs 190 HB). T9A-A runs hotter in service (300°C vs 200°C continuous). On the shop floor, T9A-A machines more easily (good vs fair).
T9A-AChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.

T9A-A vs T9A-HR: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

T9A-A vs T9A-HR — frequently asked
Is T9A-HR stronger than T9A-A?
Yes. T9A-HR has a typical yield strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) against 410 MPa (59.5 ksi) for T9A-A — about 15% more. Tensile strength is 830 MPa (120 ksi) vs 700 MPa (102 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, A or HR?
A is the default T9A condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, T9A-A or T9A-HR?
T9A-A. Its machinability rates good (55/100) against fair (42/100) for T9A-HR.
