Steel T1 vs T6

Steel · grade comparison

Steel T1 and T6 are both steel grades. T6 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) against 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) for T1, about 5% more. In exchange, T1 is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 12% for T6, and T6 is harder (262 HB vs 235 HB). T6 runs hotter in service (500°C vs 400°C continuous). On the shop floor, T1 machines more easily (fair vs poor) and T1 sits in a lower cost tier (premium, $$$) than T6 (high, $$$$).

T1Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part is machined in volume.

T6Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.

T1 vs T6 — frequently asked

Is T6 stronger than T1?

Yes. T6 has a typical yield strength of 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) against 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) for T1 — about 5% more. Tensile strength is 900 MPa (131 ksi) vs 860 MPa (125 ksi).

Which is cheaper, T1 or T6?

T1 is the lower-cost material: it sits in the premium tier ($$$) while T6 is high ($$$$). Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.

Which is easier to machine, T1 or T6?

T1. Its machinability rates fair (35/100) against poor (25/100) for T6.
