Steel T1 vs T5
Steel · grade comparison
Steel T1 and T5 are both steel grades. T5 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) against 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) for T1, about 5% more. In exchange, T1 is the more ductile: elongation 20% versus 12% for T5, and T5 is harder (255 HB vs 235 HB). On the shop floor, T1 sits in a lower cost tier (premium, $$$) than T5 (high, $$$$).
T1Choose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when cost is the deciding factor.
T5Choose it when strength drives the design.
T1 vs T5: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

T1 vs T5 — frequently asked
Is T5 stronger than T1?
Yes. T5 has a typical yield strength of 590 MPa (85.6 ksi) against 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) for T1 — about 5% more. Tensile strength is 900 MPa (131 ksi) vs 860 MPa (125 ksi).
Which is cheaper, T1 or T5?
T1 is the lower-cost material: it sits in the premium tier ($$$) while T5 is high ($$$$). Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
When should I choose T1 over T5?
Pick T1 when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when cost is the deciding factor. Pick T5 when strength drives the design.
Ready to make it?
Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in T1 and T5 side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
