Steel DC01-CR vs DC01-HR
Steel · DC01 temper comparison
DC01-CR and DC01-HR are two conditions of the same steel grade, DC01: CR (cold rolled) versus HR (hot rolled). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. DC01-HR is the stronger of the two: yield strength 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) against 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) for DC01-CR, about 19% more; tensile strength follows at 400 MPa (58 ksi) vs 310 MPa (45 ksi). In exchange, DC01-CR is the more ductile: elongation 34% versus 27% for DC01-HR, and DC01-HR is harder (120 HB vs 100 HB). DC01-HR runs hotter in service (400°C vs 350°C continuous).
DC01-CRChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded.
DC01-HRChoose it when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.
DC01-CR vs DC01-HR: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all steel grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

DC01-CR vs DC01-HR — frequently asked
Is DC01-HR stronger than DC01-CR?
Yes. DC01-HR has a typical yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) against 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) for DC01-CR — about 19% more. Tensile strength is 400 MPa (58 ksi) vs 310 MPa (45 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, CR or HR?
HR is the default DC01 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
When should I choose DC01-CR over DC01-HR?
Pick DC01-CR when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded. Pick DC01-HR when strength drives the design, or when the part sees heat.

Upload a CAD file and FabDigit prices the part in DC01-CR and DC01-HR side by side — material, machining time, tolerance and finish in one quote. Certified material data ships with the order on request.
Typical handbook values for the conditions named above, normalised for comparison. Hardness on non-Brinell scales is converted approximately for charting only. Request certified data with your order for design-critical properties.
