Stainless Steel 1.4125 +QT vs 1.4125-QT500

Stainless Steel · 1.4125 temper comparison

1.4125 +QT and 1.4125-QT500 are two conditions of the same stainless steel grade, 1.4125: +QT (quenched and tempered) versus QT500 (hardened, tempered 450–550 °C). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. 1.4125 +QT is the stronger of the two: yield strength 1,900 MPa (276 ksi) against 1,650 MPa (239 ksi) for 1.4125-QT500, about 15% more; tensile strength follows at 1,970 MPa (286 ksi) vs 1,800 MPa (261 ksi). In exchange, 1.4125-QT500 is the more ductile: elongation 3% versus 2% for 1.4125 +QT, and 1.4125 +QT is harder (580 HB vs 540 HB). 1.4125-QT500 runs hotter in service (420°C vs 300°C continuous). On the shop floor, 1.4125 +QT welds better (poor vs not recommended).
