Precious Metal 22K-ANN vs 22K-H04
Precious Metal · 22K temper comparison
22K-ANN and 22K-H04 are two conditions of the same precious metal grade, 22K: ANN (annealed) versus H04 (full hard). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. 22K-H04 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) against 75 MPa (10.9 ksi) for 22K-ANN, about 4.3 times as much; tensile strength follows at 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) vs 220 MPa (31.9 ksi). In exchange, 22K-ANN is the more ductile: elongation 35% versus 4% for 22K-H04, and 22K-H04 is harder (114 HB vs 52 HB). 22K-ANN runs hotter in service (400°C vs 200°C continuous). On the shop floor, 22K-H04 machines more easily (good vs fair) and 22K-ANN welds better (excellent vs very good).
22K-ANNChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
22K-H04Choose it when strength drives the design, or when the part is machined in volume.
22K-ANN vs 22K-H04: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all precious metal grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

22K-ANN vs 22K-H04 — frequently asked
Is 22K-H04 stronger than 22K-ANN?
Yes. 22K-H04 has a typical yield strength of 320 MPa (46.4 ksi) against 75 MPa (10.9 ksi) for 22K-ANN — about 4.3 times as much. Tensile strength is 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) vs 220 MPa (31.9 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, ANN or H04?
ANN is the default 22K condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, 22K-ANN or 22K-H04?
22K-H04. Its machinability rates good (65/100) against fair (50/100) for 22K-ANN; for welding the order is 22K-ANN first (excellent, 85/100) then 22K-H04 (very good, 75/100).
