Magnesium Alloy MB2-H24 vs MB2-H26

Magnesium Alloy · MB2 temper comparison

MB2-H24 and MB2-H26 are two conditions of the same magnesium alloy grade, MB2: H24 (strain hardened and partially annealed, half hard) versus H26 (strain hardened and partially annealed, three-quarter hard). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. MB2-H26 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 235 MPa (34.1 ksi) against 220 MPa (31.9 ksi) for MB2-H24, about 7% more. In exchange, MB2-H24 is the more ductile: elongation 15% versus 11% for MB2-H26, and MB2-H26 is harder (77 HB vs 73 HB). MB2-H24 runs hotter in service (120°C vs 110°C continuous).

MB2-H24 vs MB2-H26 — frequently asked

Is MB2-H26 stronger than MB2-H24?

Yes. MB2-H26 has a typical yield strength of 235 MPa (34.1 ksi) against 220 MPa (31.9 ksi) for MB2-H24 — about 7% more. Tensile strength is 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) vs 290 MPa (42.1 ksi).

Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H24 or H26?

H24 is the default MB2 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.

When should I choose MB2-H24 over MB2-H26?

Pick MB2-H24 when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat. Pick MB2-H26 when strength drives the design.
