Magnesium Alloy EQ21A-F vs EQ21A-T6

Magnesium Alloy · EQ21A temper comparison

EQ21A-F and EQ21A-T6 are two conditions of the same magnesium alloy grade, EQ21A: F (as fabricated) versus T6 (solution heat treated and artificially aged). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. EQ21A-T6 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 195 MPa (28.3 ksi) against 100 MPa (14.5 ksi) for EQ21A-F, about 95% more; tensile strength follows at 260 MPa (37.7 ksi) vs 175 MPa (25.4 ksi). In exchange, EQ21A-F is the more ductile: elongation 5% versus 4% for EQ21A-T6, and EQ21A-T6 is harder (80 HB vs 55 HB). EQ21A-T6 runs hotter in service (200°C vs 150°C continuous).
