Aluminum 1085-H14 vs 1085-O
Aluminum · 1085 temper comparison
1085-H14 and 1085-O are two conditions of the same aluminum grade, 1085: H14 (strain hardened, half hard) versus O (annealed). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. 1085-H14 is the stronger of the two: yield strength 85 MPa (12.3 ksi) against 22 MPa (3.19 ksi) for 1085-O, about 3.9 times as much; tensile strength follows at 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) vs 65 MPa (9.43 ksi). In exchange, 1085-O is the more ductile: elongation 40% versus 9% for 1085-H14, and 1085-H14 is harder (27 HB vs 19 HB). 1085-O runs hotter in service (150°C vs 120°C continuous).
1085-H14Choose it when strength drives the design.
1085-OChoose it when the part is bent, formed or impact-loaded, or when the part sees heat.
1085-H14 vs 1085-O: propertiesHow to read these bars
- One bar per material. A full bar is the highest value among all aluminum grades in the FabDigit library; each bar is drawn as a share of that.
- The better value (by the usual engineering direction) is in bold. Rows with no direction — density, thermal conductivity — have no bold.
- Values are typical room-temperature figures for the condition named on each card.
- Confirm against the certified mill or resin datasheet before design release.

1085-H14 vs 1085-O — frequently asked
Is 1085-H14 stronger than 1085-O?
Yes. 1085-H14 has a typical yield strength of 85 MPa (12.3 ksi) against 22 MPa (3.19 ksi) for 1085-O — about 3.9 times as much. Tensile strength is 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) vs 65 MPa (9.43 ksi).
Which condition does FabDigit quote by default, H14 or O?
O is the default 1085 condition in the FabDigit quote flow. The other condition is available on request or by drawing note — specify it in the material field or the part notes and the quote is priced for it.
Which is easier to machine, 1085-H14 or 1085-O?
1085-H14, by a small margin. Both rate poor for machinability — 33/100 against 25/100 for 1085-O.
