ABS GF30 vs ABS GF40

Polymer · ABS grade comparison

ABS GF30 and ABS GF40 are two grades of the same polymer grade, ABS: GF30 (30 % glass-fibre reinforced) versus GF40 (40% Glass Fiber). The chemistry is identical, so every difference below comes from the condition. ABS GF40 is the stronger of the two: tensile strength 110 MPa (16 ksi) against 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) for ABS GF30, about 16% more. In exchange, ABS GF30 is the more ductile: elongation 2.3% versus 1.8% for ABS GF40. ABS GF30 is lighter (1.28 g/cm³ vs 1.36 g/cm³ for ABS GF40) and ABS GF40 is stiffer (11 GPa vs 7.5 GPa). On the shop floor, ABS GF30 machines more easily (good vs fair) and ABS GF30 welds better (very good vs poor).
